Telecommunications, Media and Technology

Oman’s TMT industry is undergoing rapid change in every area from market restructuring, regulation and the introduction of innovative and disruptive technologies. AMJ has the breadth and depth of TMT expertise that comes from decades of experience and familiarity with these industries and related government policies.

In the telecoms arena, our lawyers advise government, regulatory bodies, telecommunications providers, mobile resellers, and innovators. They have detailed knowledge of regulations relating to infrastructure, access, interconnection, licensing, numbering, tariffs and unfair competition across all network types having assisted in drafting Oman’s Telecommunications Law and implementing regulations.  They also advise on the convergence of telecommunications with other sectors including IT, financial services, media, education and health.

Our technology practice works with clients at the forefront of innovation and regulatory change as improvements in network connectivity spur the adoption of new technologies such as ‘smart city’ installations, data centres and cloud services. Our lawyers advise regulators, suppliers and consumers of a wide range of hardware and software technologies such as electronic civil ID system, e-payment platforms, data centres, communication infrastructure, Internet of Things, security, privacy and data protection.

On the media front, our team draws on extensive expertise in traditional media and intellectual property, as well as our strong telecoms and technology capabilities.

AMJ’s cross practice expertise in corporate, commercial and capital markets laws, M & A, finance, IP, regulation, tax, employment and dispute resolution allows us to execute the full range of transactions and advisory our TMT clients may require. Recent work includes setting up the Oman Technology Fund within the country’s sovereign wealth fund, and advising on the licensing of a third mobile operator.
